Travel Diary Indonesia - Day 10

V - Our time in Gili Trawangan was finally on end and we had another day of travel to look forward to. I was actually looking forward to it as our first ferry trip had proved to be a lot of fun and if this one was even half as good, we could quite easily call it a day well spent.

We woke up early in the morning and rushed down to the harbor. As is typical of anything we are early for, there was inevitably a delay on the other side and we ended up waiting for the boat to arrive. After several false alarms, we finally caught the right boat and were on our way back to Lombok. Unlike our arrival on Gili, our departure was amid clear blue skies and perfect calm waters. And so we arrived at our destination that much quicker.

Travel Diary Indonesia - A Crush on Motor Biking

Motor-Biking gives you the freedom to stop whenever you like, wherever you like and for however long you like. It is perfect for me because I don’t have to physically exert myself too much as I would have to on a bicycle and I am not too cocooned as I would be in a car. You see the world at a different speed - not too fast as you would see from inside a car and not too slow as you would see on top of a bicycle. It’s just that perfect speed at which you glimpse the world whiz by giving you a unique point of view. As the landscapes changed around me, from scrubland to coastline, so did the moods in my minds. The change was subtle but it was clearly there. For a split second it makes you question the validity of everything you’ve experienced so far in your life. How much was it the environment? How much was it the people involved in it?

Travel Diary Indonesia - Day 8

Today was supposed to be the day we did our dive and snorkel. So we got up praying that it wouldn’t rain and spoil the entire day for us. It had been raining the entire night before but it was relatively clear when we woke up. We got ready and went to the Lombok Dive Office where we had booked for our dives that day. As we stood there trying to conceal our nervousness with an outward appearance of bubbling excitement, instead of being taken to a place where we would be trained for the dive, we were taken to watch a really really long and boring training video about how to dive and snorkel. The scenario was so similar to attending a boring class in college that I found myself trying to hide my phone and secretly message people. It was a slightly embarrassing when I realized what I was doing!

Travel Diary Indonesia - Day 7

Today we packed and left for the harbor to catch a boat to Gili Trawangan.  As usual it was raining, so we were already half wet before we got on the boat. The choppy seas completed the job and drenched us as we journeyed forth to the Gilis. But it wasn’t all bad, the to and fro-ing of the boat was like a lovely lullaby putting us to sleep. By the time we woke up we had arrived at our destination. (By the way, we were listening to the song Lahiri Lahiri Lahiri Lo which was amazingly apt to the place and the sleepy condition we were in! :)) Now before you assume that we slept like some sort of mythical rakshasas, we should probably tell you that the ride was only 20 minutes long.
